The former concentration camps of Auschwitz and Birkenau in Oświęcim are not only museums, but, in first order, places of remembrance. Everything becomes metaphysical here - violence and cruelty, bravery and sacrifice. Here, divisions between races, classes, political views and religious beliefs cease to count. When visiting the place, where human beings were reduced to meaningless numbers, one can discover all aspects of this international tragedy and the terrifying in its sophistication system of annihilation of humans not only in the gas chambers but also by means of depleting slave work, atrocious sanitary conditions and illnesses.
